  • Adult Education Tutor

    Role Overview: 

    As an Adult Education Tutor, you'll provide one-on-one tutoring to adult learners aiming to enhance their literacy skills, including reading, writing, math, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL).


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement personalized lesson plans.
    • Establish a supportive and respectful learning environment.
    • Maintain detailed records of learner progress.
    • Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal skills and a sense of humor.
    • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing).
    • Respect for adult learners as peers.
    • Patience, flexibility, and perseverance.
    • Basic computer skills (e.g., navigating online learning tools).
    • Experience or interest in working with individuals with disabilities.

    Time Commitment: 

    Flexible scheduling based on your availability. Office hours are Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (closed for lunch from 12:00 PM–1:00 PM). Tutors may work 1–2 hours per day or 8–10 hours per week, with options for on-call support.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

  • Front Desk/Receptionist

    UVDN Front Desk Job Description – 2025: 

    • Staff the front desk, including answering phones and greeting the public.
    • Assist agency consumers when they are present.
    • Assist with general office activities including, but not limited to, filing, data entry, sending faxes, and mail.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Ensure familiarity with the Independent Living (IL) philosophy and UVdN policies and procedures.
    • Complete job responsibilities in a timely manner.
    • Maintain contact information and other appropriate info.
    • Assist other volunteers as necessary.
    • Assume volunteer duties whenever needed, including heavy work-times or no-shows.
    • Be responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional environment throughout the office, especially in the lobby and front desk area.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook
    • Great people skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience organizing and prioritizing work tasks
    • Excellent personal and professional boundaries
